’night

Obrigado, again

A surprise. Two friends of friends offered to take us on a dune buggy ride to some beach spot. I was worried about my back, but went anyway and I’m soooooo glad I did. We got to it, were ushered onto two flat boats and sticked out to this sandbar where our pilots jumped into the water and retrieved sea horses and crab for our inspection.
Yes, we agreed, that’s totally amazing.
Then we sticked our through the Mangui groves to a bar that’s just out in the middle of this beach marsh, our chairs and tables sitting in like a foot of water, and we sucked on crabs for a while.
Of course we had to stop again for beers and this amazing fried yucca root (tastes like French fries only better) called Mandioca. We were encouraged to pour as much salt on it as we could and then asked if we wanted more beer.
Yes, please.

What up, dogs?

I'll take a two-liter

Wait, is this expensive or is this cheap?

Why all the chickens?

This last round of pics - from the Get Ready post to here and beyond - are from Porto de Galinhas, or the chicken harbor, a beach town named for the boats used in the Brazilian slave trade that also doubled as floating chicken warehouses in the African export of poultry from Angola. I’m going to have to get my story straight, but it sounds like Princess Isabella outlawed the slave trade in the late 1800s, but the practice continued as a smuggling operation—the kidnapped Africans hidden in the boats among the chickens so as not to be detected. It sounds brutal and hard to forget—impossible to forget when a city is branded with a memorial like that. Maybe the U.S. should do something similar.

Hot bike

Saw these bikes everywhere. Some of them said Monark some said Caloi, but they all had that circle welded into the center of them. I convinced myself that they somehow defelected heat, ’cause everyone who was riding them looked so fricking cool. No one was buying my theory, though.

Thanks, Mazi

My man, Mazi Cunha.
He showed me around the maze of customs and baggage claim and Portuguese that is the Sao Paulo airport.
Sat next to him on the plane. He's 38. He's got two boys who are 6 and 3. He lives in the Midwest (Kalamazoo, MI).
Sound familiar?
Good man.
Thanks for all your help.
Take care.

Black beauty

Been getting the Empella ready to sell (sigh). It's hard because it's EXACTLY what I'd get if I were to buy another cross steed, but I need the garage room and the cizash more than this perfect bike. Someone's going to be stoked. New wires and it's ready to rawk.

we're train spotters

Look, another b279o. Epic!

It took us a long time to get back on the train

All aboard!
