Tool Library

Berkley, CA has a Tool Library where residents can check out a whole list of tools for 3-7 days to complete projects. This is such a great idea. There have been plenty of times when I needed a random tool for a single job, but didn't want to buy that tool to use only once. Having paid $28 to rent a 32' ladder for 4 hours, I can really see a need for tool libraries everywhere. In cities where residents don't have the space to store a large collection of tools this makes especially good sense. On the other hand, it feels good to own a bunch of tools. It feels good knowing I can build or destroy a bunch of stuff with the tools I have.

Good stuff, Maynard.

Day one.
Day two.
Day three.

Unstoppable

Friend of GP and author of “The Answer Is Never: A Skateboarder’s History of the World.” Jocko Weyland has had a piece on fixed gear bikes published in the New York Times.

Check it out by clicking here.

While you're there, reading each and every one of Jocko's well-crafted words, click on the interactive feature "The Fixers." Another cool and diverse view on the phenomena of never coasting.

Oh dude, designers are screwed

There's all this chit-chat about sustainable design whether it's products or just plain graphic design. Everyone is chiming in on it and it's a interesting topic. Here are some links to various posts about what I'm talking about. 1, 2.
