Boulder Cup Photos - Nov 01, 2009

A few shots from Boulder Cup yesterday. I was expecting lots of mud and slop from last week's storm and instead was greeted with sand and dust. Still, a fun day of shooting.

"PR"
Hi there. Incase just launched a new campaign for the Paul Rodriguez Signature Collection. Mike O'Meally worked the shutter, and Felipe Lima created a superb picture show (seen above).

The Real Maverick
If one of your favorite skaters of all time is Neil Blender, you can float around in my boat, bring beer, and the bait. He was the real Maverick!
I shot this lofty ollie in the Del Mar Skate Ranch Keyhole during practice for a contest in '85 or so.
It was and is amazing to witness Neil maneuver his long and lanky form through the air and around the pool.
Maverick!

The Pole Camera

1987 Upland Pipeline Combi Pool- I had always wanted to shoot a skate photo with a pole cam. I think I got the idea from a photo a surf photog had shot. I mounted my Nikon FM2 with a 16mm fisheye on a tripod head and mounted that on a mono-pod and hooked up a squeeze bulb shutter release with the hose coiled around the pole. I shot a roll of black and white and a roll of color, one shot on each came out nicely.
I really wanted to get our two shadows in the photo as a reference to show how far above coping Chris Miller’s frontside air was and to show that I was using a pole cam. I think our shadows in the upper right of the photo tells the whole story, I will stop now.
