Mommy Issues
Skateboard Mag staff writer and off-season Santa to the donkey-butt stars, Dave Carnie , has delved head first into the world of skate rock and composed his first musical masterpiece — "Grind Tough (Or Go Home To Mommy)".
Jackassworld.com has the whole E! True Hollywood Story thing, except it might not be true, it's about San Jose, and it's more of a yarn than an actual story.

Safe and sound.
I know, I know; none of you have been sleeping very well for the past decade not knowing what happened to the soundtrack of Deluxe Bicycles.
After a fish fry dinner and a couple of cocktails near a polka lounge. I was inspired to exhume some of the old tapes when Carrie and I got home to rock some Herman the German and Das Cowboy. I think the best part of this tape is that it has been played so many times that his Gretsch is sounding extra Gretschy these days.
The past couple of days have been listening to a lot of the stuff from the shop that I absconded with like soldiers in the closing days of a war. Oh, the classics; Herman on K-U-T Austin, first "pressings" of "Fresh Fruit" and kvell of the crowd from Bad Brains yellow self-titled debut; the infamous "Blank Tape", then their is the requisite Uprisings b/w the Rockers soundtrack and various Black Flags. One tape that I had for a long time, but I ended up giving back to Spuk was of Will Saws, Charlie ???, and friends kicking out the jams and some commentary that was, to say the least, a bit hazy. That would be a good one to listen to again. I wonder where it ended up....
make it happen
In skateboarding few things are given to you. You have to take them. On Sunday, Brendan and I found a foundation to skate then scoped a barrier to construct a perfect handrail at our new foundation spot. Brendan went above and beyond to grab the barrier from where it was and carry it a few hundred feet across the street and past the police station in order to make it happen. Color Photos by me, B&W by Richie.

RAD
There were a ton of teen underdog sports movies made in the 80s. All of them followed similar themes. You had your rich kid bad boy gangs with feathered blond hair, the new kid who has to prove himself, the sidekick slash girlfriend, and all of them were set in the Valley. High School must have been tough in upper class suburban L.A back then. Damn.
The best and worst of these was "RAD". It had the best slo-mo scenes and the best soundtrack. Not to mention the best climax, a race. "The biggest and most important bicycle motocross event ever held" in fact.
Thanks to nacho_supreme for reminding me of this gem.

I'll have more photos posted on my site in the near future, including shots of Slipknot, Disturbed, Dragonforce, Machine Head, Underoath, and a bunch more.
"The tr-action never stops ... at Action Park!"
This had to be the most dangerous amusement park in the world. Check it, a looping waterslide. Quote: "safety may have once been in the hands of a fourteen-year old tripping on acid."
-Article from 'Weird New Jersey'
Its popularity went hand in hand with a reputation for poorly-designed, unsafe rides; inattentive, underaged, underpaid and sometimes under-the-influence employees; equally intoxicated and underprepared visitors — and the poor safety record that followed from this perfect storm of circumstances. At least six people are known to have died as a result of mishaps on rides at the park, and it was nicknamed "Traction Park", "Accident Park", "Class Action Park", "Danger Park" and "Death Park" by doctors at nearby hospitals due to the number of severely injured parkgoers they treated.
The director of the emergency room at a nearby hospital said they treated from five to ten victims of park accidents on some of the busiest days, and the park eventually bought the township of Vernon extra ambulances to keep up with the volume.
A skateboard park briefly existed, near the ski area's ski school building, but closed due to poor design after a season. Bowls were separated by pavement, which in many cases did not meet the edges smoothly. Former park employee Tom Fergus was quoted in an article in the magazine Weird NJ saying that the skate park was responsible for so many injuries we covered it up with dirt and pretended it never existed.
Sockrider Friedeh, The Pit, March 17, 1987
Here's where I spent a few years skatin. It was in Morgan Hill, CA. We used to take the bus to ride this from Gilroy. It was the bestest ditch, starting at about 1 1/2ft tall at the start and about 5ft at the bottom by the hip. The deck on top was just wide enough to push for speed before dropping in and a lil transition at the bottom was perfect. At one time they poured a curb down the middle to stop the sk8n. It didn't take long to figure out that you could just use a sledge hammer to knock the curb out, then put it up top for lip tricks. The curb made it better than ever.
Just carving down this from top to bottom was a blast.
About two years ago, I had some guys from the bay area go down to check the status of this. Apparently after I moved to Nebraska, they poured a bunch of gravel and concrete down there and finally ruined it. There's still one section like 8 ft wide that is still skated.
Dude, I knew it,
Moon-walker claims alien contact cover-up
FORMER NASA astronaut and moon-walker Dr Edgar Mitchell - a veteran of the Apollo 14 mission - has stunningly claimed aliens exist.
Dr Mitchell, 77, said during a radio interview that sources at the space agency who had had contact with aliens described the beings as "little people who look strange to us."
He said supposedly real-life ETs were similar to the traditional image of a small frame, large eyes, and head.
Chillingly, he claimed our technology is "not nearly as sophisticated" as theirs and "had they been hostile." He warned, "We would be been gone by now."
Dr Mitchell, along with with Apollo 14 commander Alan Shepard, holds the record for the longest ever moon walk, at nine hours and seventeen minutes following their 1971 mission.
"I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real," Dr Mitchell said.
"It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it.
"I've been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes—we have been visited. Reading the papers recently, it's been happening quite a bit."
Dr Mitchell, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering and a Doctor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics claimed Roswell was real and similar alien visits continue to be investigated.
He told the astonished Kerrang! radio host Nick Margerrison: "This is really starting to open up. I think we're headed for real disclosure and some serious organisations are moving in that direction."
Mr Margerrison said: "I thought I'd stumbled on some sort of astronaut humour but he was absolutely serious that aliens are definitely out there and there's no debating it."
Officials from NASA, however, were quick to play the comments down.
In a statement, a spokesman said: "NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe.
'Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue.'

Perspective.......
oh heck.
Check it out! My coworker Dale just released his first book. It's called Heck and it's a story about some middle schoolers and their mis-adventures in the afterworld.
Dale is super talented and by far the funniest dude I've ever shared a cubical wall with. Check out his interview. Then go buy his book! (It's available at Target, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Powell's, and Amazon.) It's something I'm sure both you and the kiddies can enjoy.
Welcome...

1 down...1 to go
put a check mark by g-ted's death ride. it was a good one. anyone willing to put together a 100mile loop and lead a group around it has a passion for gravel roads and country views. i'm not a country boy but i sure appreciate the peace and quiet.
next up...the ponca ride. that route has a few moments of sublime isolation. well...as much isolation as a road in neb. on a map can have. and that's a good problem for sure.
