Double Nickels On The Dime turns 25

The best album of all time is turning 25.
Check this Boing Boing post about The Minutemen's Double Nickles On The Dime.

Again, the more you read The Onion, the finer the line becomes between "legit" news sources and "Americas Finest New Source," (guess you can decide which one is which).

The USA Today has an article in it where it speaks about linguistics professor Pamela Munro's Slang Class at UCLA. Which, is funny considering studying the origins and use's of "Hot Carl," and "Schnoodling," might take the place of another, more pressing course. I'm not hating, per se. Just saying, it's depressingly funny. In that "have you seen that movie Idiocrasy?," sort of way.

Stupidest Bike Lane in America?

My progeny ...

... is way better than I ever was. And he just turned 13. I should be embarrassed, but I'm STOKED!

Big thank yous out to Rick, Guy, Alex and Mike (yeah, that Rick, Guy, Alex and Mike) for making this birthday session a crusher.

I remember one of the Mag's features from year one or two, when they wanted us "the reader" to send some photos of how we improved a spot to skate. The section didn't last very long, but I think this qualifies. These guys that live on my way to work have graduated their driveway skate spot from some wooden wedge ramps to this. I know... sweet, ain't it?

fender bikes rule

maybe rule is a bit extreme, but they are nice for keeping storm sewer water off your bidness clothes.

Solitary Fun

Grabbed the Big Red and hit the streets the other day, fun times on 7 plys and soft wheels.

i got pulled over by the LAW the other day

I've got this wicked 90's chevy pickup truck with mexican license plates.

the other day, we were driving up the mountain from town ( 45 min ride )

I saw the cop coming towards us, slow down as he passed us and then start turning around. I just pulled over and waited for him.

when he pulled up behind me he was like
wtf are you doing???

oh hi officer, I had a feeling you were going to pull me over, Mexican plates and all, I knew it was only a matter of time.

The cop didn't think I was funny, he was like, sir, this area is a HUGE WEED growing area,

NO SHIT? i asked, he kinda looked at me, mind if we search your truck.... go ahead I told him, nothing but trash and empty beer cans in the back. in front a floor full of sun flower seeds... He then kindly asked if he could take our picture.

I asked if we could make sure we got the dog in the pic. So Sonia, Chili and I said cheeze out back of our truck while two younger cops figured out what we were doing and then asked if
they could get the same gig...

winter in mexico, summer in yosemite..

dig it.

still havn't found any weed up here. sons of bitches.

Poor Jens

Jens Voigt crashed out of the tour yesterday. Going around 70 km/hr on a descent. He's lucky to still be alive. He's one of my favorite riders in the pro peleton. This may be the end of his career. Super bummer.

Aziz is going off

Aziz Ansari is damn good. Here is a short mock doc on a stand-up comedian character that he's crafted who goes by the name Randy. Aziz has described Randy's persona as thus, "If Soulja Boy was a comedian, he'd be Randy."

Randy's been doing comedy for two months now, is blowin' up, and performs his set with a DJ who used to be a Dental Hygienist - "Workin' on dem teeeth!"

the punkest event of the season...

still can't do em

...but at least i can take a picture of great sticker placement.

no more sitting around and moping for me

Last night was the first time in 3 weeks I was able to get my bike shoe on my foot. Had another severe sprain and really missed being clipped in. two weeks of getting a ride to work and slowly hobblin was lame, was strong enough to ride to work last week, but slowly and not clipped in. Very happy nowz.

my letter to billy bob, thornton that is

In a recent interview with Bill Maher, Billy Bob Thornton said something that really pissed me off. He stated that, with the exception of U2 and REM, there hasn't been a new band or musician since 1978 that we will still be listening to their music in a 100 yrs. In the way so many bands producing music before 1978 are still considered legendary. While I do agree that the 1960s and early 1970s did produce a Renaissance type era of musical geniuses, with substantial lasting power, I couldn't disagree more with his statement. But since he is an Academy Award winning actor, when he says shit like that, people agree with him and feel like they cannot argue an opposing point very successfully. Also, he was not making this statement as an actor but as a 4 time record releasing musician. "The shit you say, Billy Bob's a musician"? Yes, listen to how totally un-awesome his band is here.

Personally, I can't shake his comment, it has really makes me mad to think about it and how authoritative he sounded when he said it. I mean, U2 and REM is the best you got Billy Bob? I wish you knew how much that statement made you sound like you were saying, "those kids and their damn rock-n-roll music, they should all get a haircut". As much as I know my list of new performers since 1978 that will be listened to in 100yrs , I don't think this will change your mind, But here's ten at random, feel free to add to this at any time. Prince, Madonna, Conor Oberst, Kanye West, The Beastie Boys, Damien Marley, Jack White, Afrika Bambaataa, John Legend and Janes Addiction.

computer drama...

Long story short, my G5 took a massive dump in the middle of 2 big projects, had to buy a new one, which sounds cool unless you are under some heavy deadlines and you gotta re-set up all your stuff and figure out a new computer. even better is when the new one turns out to be a lemon. at any rate, im kinda back from the dead (i dont have a shaved head) and i figured id share a few things my computer has told me in the past few days...

Calling all LNK-ers

I will be visiting from July 24 - 30 and would love a loaner bike again. My twin, Eric from Monkey Wrench lent me a sweet single speed steed last time, so anyone who can help me out I would give a big smooch to. kw or Ortiz could help with the transaction if necessary. And of course, I assume all responsibility.

This picture reminds me of when I was a student in the beautiful Dutch city of Amsterdam. I never had a bike stolen. I had many a bike literally "fall apart" and get ditched by the side of the road. But never stolen. I feel very fortunate in comparison to every single person I knew who had at least one bike stolen that year, usually more.
