shop!

Got wind of this nostalgia-inspiring blog from a coworker.
Not sure how often it's updated, but it's got an amazing collection of old mall photos to peruse.

Remember the glass elevator in the Gold's building? And WC's at Eastpark? And the Jack and Jill, and Ben Franklin in Northeast Lincoln? Right by the orthodontist? I suddenly have a craving for jelly beans...

Oh I forgot to mention the Center. In the early 70s when I lived in old Omaha with the "boys" the Center was near by - never crowded and well stocked (because no one else went there? - must be why there has been no retail at the Center for decades)

Well yesterday I wrote a nice long post the didn't get published :-(
I'll try again.
I remember all of these shopping centers - spent too much money and time at each. They are my shopping history, if you will. We moved to Omaha from a small CA town in June of 1961 - Crossroads had just opened and it was so awesome!! I have sooo many memories from Crossroads - lots of fun times with my Mom, shopping for Prom and graduation and college. Then registering for wedding gifts and picking out invitations before I got married. My Westroads memories will forever be of the tragety there this last Dec. and my gratitude that the Kapler girls got out of there okay that day.
On to Gateway - so many changes there over the last 30 years that I have shopped and lived in Lincoln. Remember when we would eat at Bishops - if you were good :-) Remember shopping for a Prom dress all those lunch hours when you were a senior Katie? Glad to say all my memories are not tied up in shopping and shopping centers and it has been fun thinking about these places on the post cards. Mom

I knew you'd love this one mom! I miss Ben Simon's. And sneaking into The Incredible Bulk next door to sneak Jelly Bellys. And the weird Bike Pedelars that Kev worked in sometimes! And I DO remember Bishops! I LOVED it! The weird, colonial style lighting, that cage of balloons at the end when you'd pay, and the little electric candle you'd turn on if you needed something from the waitress...Funny how many memories come back. I miss you mom!
