This tree is 30 years old. It gets some summertime air outside but then it has to come inside once it gets into the 40s. It needs help to get in and out. Thanks, Butchie. Lots of friends have helped me with this tree over the years and O'm sure it would thank them all if it could speak. But it can't.

WWII photos
Some of you know that I'm a WWII history buff. Recently I started collecting old photos. It's amazing how many original photos you can find on Ebay or other auction sites. Some go for hundreds while other less than a dollar. Each photo captures a moment in time and this is especially true for me with these photos. Note the map and a portrait of Hitler in the background.
I suppose the mystery of what happened to the people in the photos fascinates me. I've contemplated trying to identify the men in the image, but have discarded that as impossible.
This photos humanizes some German soldiers (at least to me). Having some German blood in my veins makes me feel compelled to correct folks when they see a photo like this and quickly refer to it as Nazi. Not all Germans in 1930's and 1940's were Nazis. Just like not all Americans are Republicans or Democrats.
Above is a photo of a German soldier going off to war in WWI. I don't know the exact date of the photo, but suspect is was taken in 1914. This is one of several photos I bought from an estate sale in Germany via the interweb.
Waste of money? No. A very wise investment in history.

RMAF
Donk and I just got back from a whirlwind weekend in Denver at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. We saw and heard a lot of stuff, including what you see here in this here photo.
Earth From Above
Aerial photography and environmentalism seem to go hand in hand. We had William Garnett in the 50's then David Maisel starting in the 80's. Most recently Yann Arthus-Bertrand's Earth From Above series. See 39 of the 150 images here on the Boston Globe's excellent Big Picture photo blog. The full exhibit is hitting 120 international cities and New York will host the images starting in May of 2009. Via: Chris Glass.
Rock Port Wind
Remember Mr. W?
Here's a vid story I produced for CurrentTV on Rock Port, Missouri, the first city in the US to be 100% powered by wind. Rock Port's wind farm will produce about 16 million kilowatt hours annually, while Rock Port only uses 13 million. The extra power will be sold off to other communities in the area. Props to the super nice people of this beautiful little town.
