Cancelled gigs

I had a gig lined up yesterday that got cancelled at the last minute. So I called my business partner S.O. to see if he wanted to
have a board meeting. That's a panoramic shot of our board room. You can tell it's a board room because SO is on the phone conducting important business in the right hand side of the photo. Our board meeting consisted of about 1400 feet of climbing and about 4500 feet of descending. If you want you can check out the map here. If any of you Nebraska folks are ever in Utah, hit us up and we will schedule a board meeting like this with you.

So this was the last picture I took, seconds before my point and shoot camera tilted forward and fell into the fine moon dust we have around here. I guess that jagged bunch of rocks I set it on wasn't a good idea. Now the camera shop is benefitting from my good problem.

Get your 15 year old son to sit in darkened room and place camera on tripod or other immovable anchor and set camera shutter speed on several second exposure and point small laser at son's face and wiggle laser around and do not point laser into eyes of said individual and avoid burning flesh of same subject and close lens of camera

living through the past

On the way back from Washington last weekend, I made my first stop at the Imperial Stock Ranch in Shaniko, Oregon. I have been buying lamb from the woman who runs the sheep and wool aspect of the ranch for almost 8 years now. Her and her family are living on and operating a 138 year old, continuously running ranch. The picture of the large barn is where they store barn type of stuff, as well as house their museum of found objects from the land. The saddles are all found objects along with some other crazy old stuff.

Sam gets tripped up on the first barrier and goes down during a race at Pioneer's Park in 2003. While hitting the deck and his head on the second barrier, he still holds onto the bike. He finished 6th in the Category A race.

Ever see stuff you can't believe someone made?

Me too.

I thought it would be fun to share some of the ones I've come across with you — the interweb.

The first product was pulled from a dept. store board. The customer's daughter was complaning that the board didn't roll. I wonder why? Someone actually took the time to "engineer" the inside of the plastic to look like the inside of a real skateboard bearing.

That's worth the time, for sure.

What was your shutter speed on that one?

It was 6 months. That's the path of the sun from the winter to the summer solstice. Some pretty inspiring stuff from this guy.

The project was to record views of Bristol, with the sun trailing across the sky from the winter solstice (22nd December) to the summer solstice (the 20th of June). The technique is not new. Several people are currently doing similar work. Paolo Gioli in Italy and Tarja Trygg in Finland are both experts in this area. I just wanted my hometown of Bristol to be imaged in this way. Accessible wonder is all the reason I need.

Most of the cameras survived 6 months of wind, rain, hail (and being thrown in the bin!). Several were blank; one was full of water, (the emulsion on the photographic material having floated off.) and one, still exposing, currently sits inaccessibly under 10 foot of bramble, waiting forever to be recovered.

RIP John Hughes

John Hughes, director, producer, and writer of films including Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, National Lampoon's Vacation, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink, and Uncle Buck, died yesterday of a heart attack. He was 59.
