Jenks,
Maybe.
No one can prove it really.
Either way ... sounds a little sketchy. First they said that Landis had possibly tested positive for a stimulant. Now they're saying the A test (they'll do a B test eventually) shows unusal levels in the ratio between of Epistosterone to Testosterone.
Looks like the Testosterone level was the same, but the Epitestosterone level changed to more than double what it should be. Usually, in all the tests they've done for the last 15 years or so, the levels of both can rise and fall, but they do so parallel to each other.
The tests are widely thought of as inconclusive though, plus there are millions of points that could be messed with, evidence ecould be planted, etc.,
It seems the whole world of sport (EVERY sport) is using and abusing substances to gain a competitive edge. But we sholud never believe that a cheating culture would only employ one method of gaining an advantage. Tampering with another person's lab results, even if only to raise suspicion, at it's most blundered still puts an athlete's performance into doubt and sends his case into an investigation black hole for no less than two years.
Ugh.
I'm still convinced that the competitive cycling (from the domestic amateur ranks all the way up to the highest level of professional participation) is using performance enhancers. If not the obvious steroidal methods, then stuff we don't even know about yet.
It's just a bad ending to a story. I think that's why it bugs me so much. A better ending would be if someone was to be discovered to have tampered with the urine sample, and then he admitted to messing with others.
Or if Landis would have used the microphone as he stood on the podiium in Paris and said, "I cheated, everyone cheated, and this is a complete and utter joke. I'm quitting cycling."
That's a fansasy, though.
Cycling is dirty. But so is everything else.
Hope is fleeting.
Hug your family and read books. And smile.

I don't think he did anything. Look at Lance's lastest scandel. The testing methods are flawed as well as the physiology behind the testers levels of acceptable ranges. I'd like to see anyone go out and ride 2,000 plus miles in three weeks and not have some high levels of endogenous anabolic hormones.
